We all want to wake up to having perfect skin. So what is the secret of flawless skin? The secret to beautiful skin is no secret at all—what you have to do is take care of yourself by routinely following a few tips (and perhaps a detox from time to time). Complete skincare can be summed up in three categories, all of which are equally important: nourishment, skin hygiene, and stress.

Nourishment

When it comes to skincare, everyone focuses on the cleansing and moisturizing but what we tend to forget is that nourishment is a real basis. Be sure to eat enough vegetables and fruits, and choose food rich in proteins, antioxidants, and vitamins, especially vitamin C.

Lower your intake of sugar and dairy products, except yogurt which is actually good for you due to its helpful bacteria. You should also cut down on alcohol and caffeine, and try to avoid fried and spicy food.

Apart from food, your daily consumption of water is also significant for the state of your skin. Make sure to drink enough of it, about 2 liters per day.

Stress

You can have a perfect diet and your skin cleaning technique may be spotless, yet it is also important to note that stress also leaves a mark on our skin, especially in the form of wrinkles and skin dryness. The skin on your face is influenced by stress as much as the rest of your body.

There are different ways to reduce stress, if possible lessen or eliminate stress factors but also try doing any kind of sport or exercise. Sleep is also crucial for stress management, so try to sleep for 8 hours every day.

Skin hygiene

So, apart from food and stress, you also have to take care of your skin hygiene. When cleaning your skin, make sure you use products that suit your skin type. But regardless of your skin belongs to normal, oily, dry, combination or sensitive skin type, the routine is the same: cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing and applying sun cream.

Cleanse your skin daily

When cleansing your skin, make sure you wipe off your makeup first. This is even more relevant when it comes to waterproof makeup because makeup blocks pores which can result in blackheads. You can cleanse your skin with different products but what is more important is the frequency of cleansing. It is enough to clean their face once or twice a day.

Wash your face in warm water, as hot water can actually make your skin more oily. Also, popping pimples is not a good idea, since it can lead to scarring. Try to lower the swelling by using rose water or baking soda.

Pro tip: since daily removal of waterproof mascara can irritate the sensitive skin around your eyes try using semi-permanent eyelashes instead. You can also always invest some time in trying out some lash hacks for great results.

Moisturize to protect your skin

After cleaning your skin, use a moisturizer to shield your skin from dirt and elements. Though moisturizing is useful do not apply it during the night, as the skin needs rest too. If you don’t want to use a product, you may want to try some natural alternatives such as shea butter, aloe vera, coconut or olive oil.

Exfoliate weekly

Apart from cleaning the skin, it is also important to exfoliate it as well. Exfoliating offers deeper cleansing of pores and the removal of dead skin cells. It shouldn’t be done too often, no more than once or twice a week. You can use any kind of facial scrubs but you can also use baking soda, sea salt or honey and even coffee!

Applying sun cream

Sun rays, including UVA and UVB rays, harm your skin in the long run, by causing wrinkles and spots. This is why it is important to use sun cream to protect your skin. Apply creams with the SPF of 30 or higher. Do not only use it on the beach in the summertime but also in snowy mountains, as snow also reflects the sun.

All in all, it is not impossible to have beautiful skin, but you have to be persistent. Create your personal skin cleaning routine, find the time and ways to relax and take care of your diet. These tips should provide you with beautiful and flawless skin even without the use of professional makeup or Photoshop.
